Apex Park tops our list because it happens to be right next to the most popular beach in Byron Bay: Main Beach. Parents will love the chance to enjoy the views of the ocean and beach in front of them as the kids play at what might be one of the more picturesque outdoor children’s playgrounds around.

The playground features a swing set, several slides (including a tunnel one) and various other equipment. The main playground set receives some shade from the tall Norfolk Pines, and you can push kids on the swings while staring out into the ocean.

Plus, in the same area, you’ll find barbecues and picnic tables, which makes it the perfect spot to set up for a meal with the family. There are tons of choices around for food in case you don’t want to pack up your own.

If you follow the pathway from Main Beach (a path, mind you, that is fully accessible for prams or strollers) up the foreshore, you can make a stop at the Clarkes Beach outdoor playground. Another excellent children’s playground in Byron Bay!

This popular family beach, located between Main Beach and The Pass, is a great place for kids to swim safely. That’s why this playground is another outstanding addition to your playground tour of Byron Bay. The playground itself is somewhat new and, while small, still makes a good place to hang out off the beach for bit. It features a climbing wall and slide.

Another reason to visit this playground is its proximity to the Byron Beach Café where you can grab some delicious takeaway at a kiosk or dine in the restaurant before or after your visit to the beach and playground.

3. Railway Park

This children’s playground makes our list due to its cool web climbing feature and its location—in the centre of Byron Bay proper. Located off Jonson Street, Railway Park, named for the nearby Rails Pub (a place parents may want to visit another time!), is near the Visitors Information Centre and across from the Community Centre. Plus, with all the restaurants nearby, it’s easy to fit this outdoor playground into your other holiday plans.

The playground would make a good place for Dad to keep an eye on the kids while Mum checks out the nearby shops. Not only is the web frame fun to climb on, but so are the nearby large Cottonwood trees with their low branches.

If your planning works out, you might want to stop by on a Saturday evening between 4 and 9 pm during the summer months (mid October to Easter) for the Artisan Markets.

4. Jacaranda Drive Park

If you’re looking for an outdoor playground that happens to be near one of our top foodie recommendations, 100 Mile Table, then look no further than Jacaranda Drive Park. There are two sections to this children’s playground—one with built-in shade, and both with slides, monkey bars and various other fun play equipment, including a flying fox.

Each area has its own picnic table and barbecue, and there is a basketball court on the premise. If you’d prefer someone else to cook, you could leave one parent watching the kids playing and send the other over to 100 Mile to pick up yummy takeaway.

5. Circus Arts Play Space

Whether you and the kids need to get away from the sun for a few hours or it’s raining—yes, it does sometimes rain in Byron Bay!—this indoor playground is an excellent choice to get energy out.

The Circus Arts Play Space, which is for kids age 1 to 10, gives children an indoor area to play with a variety of toys, books and puzzles. There are little cars they can ride in as well as a jumping castle. Best of all, a new climb and slide recently opened that kids should love. The play space is open 9 am to 6 pm on weekdays and 9 am to 3 pm on weekends. Kids can play for two hours for $8 and must wear socks. The nearby couches offer a place for parents to relax and watch the kids while sipping on coffee and treats from the onsite café.
