What’s On? Brunswick Heads Old & Gold Festival – 11 June
Love a good deal? Want to snag some wonderful treasures while on holiday? Well, schedule your next holiday to Byron Bay for the weekend of 11 June (the Queen’s Birthday long weekend) and make the trip to Brunswick Heads for the Old & Gold Festival. This Byron Bay festival features garage sales all over town and four collectable and secondhand fairs, as well as tons of fun activities, including live music, face painting, horse and carriage rides and crafts.
Brunswick Heads hosts this festival annually, and it goes on regardless of the weather conditions. Luckily, many of the activities are located under tents, so no worries if there happens to be some rain. But hopefully it’ll be sunny skies so you can spend the day searching for unique items.
Plan your day
The All Town Garage Sale, featuring more than 90 households selling wares, takes place throughout the town, so you can simply drive or walk around going from sale to sale. The sales begin at 8 am so make sure you get there early if you’re really looking to do some serious treasure hunting! The sales continue until 2 pm.
This Brunswick festival also includes four other fairs, which will feature secondhand and collectable items.
- Indoor collectables fair, 8:30 am to 3 pm, Memorial Hall (Fingal Street)
- Ye Olde Church Fair, 8:30 am to 3 pm, Catholic Church (corner of Tweed and Mullumbimby Streets)
- Brunswick School Treasure Trove Fair, 8:30 am to 3 pm, Brunswick Heads Primary School (corner of Fingal and Park Streets)
- CWA Secondhand Fair, 8:30 am to 3 pm, CWA Hall (Park Street, behind school)
Additionally, there is a book fair being held in the visitor centre at Memorial Hall, so while you’re at the collectables fair, be sure to stop by and check out the selections. And there’s even more shopping to be had when you visit the 13 secondhand and other shops offering sales in town during the Old and Gold Festival.
Plus, there are so many other excellent things to do during this Byron Bay festival. If you have kids along with you, be sure to head over to the Brunswick Picture House for the kids show at 1 pm. Other kid-friendly activities include free face painting (Brunz Kids from 10 am to 1 pm), horse and carriage rides (9 am to 3 pm near Memorial Hall) and the barn dance (Brunswick Picture House, 4 pm).
The Old and Gold Festival also features live music from 10 am to 2 pm at five locations (Soundshell The Terrace, Clem’s Cargo Tweed Street, IGA Supermarket, Memorial Hall and The Terrace). Enter the raffles for a chance to win a guitar or retro bicycles. Check out the quilting display over at the CWA Hall on Park Street. If you’re hungry, you’ll be in luck at this Brunswick festival where you can nosh on food from the fundraising BBQs or other food stalls or partake in the Devonshire teas.
Join in the marbles fun
While you’re at the Gold and Old Festival, you and your family should stop by the Ye Olde Church Fair to participate in a fun game of marbles from 10 to 11:30 am. If you really like playing marbles, you may consider competing in the Australian Marbles Championships that take place on Sunday 12 June, also on the church grounds, starting at 9:30 am for primary aged kids.
